It was a snowy December evening, and Sammi and Eriko were bundled up on the couch with a stack of holiday snacks. The scent of peppermint hot chocolate wafted through the air, and the TV cast a warm glow as a lesbian-themed Christmas rom-com played on screen. A cozy blanket covered both their laps, but Sammi kept tugging it to her side.
“Hey!” Eriko protested. “That’s my half of the blanket!”
“You’re plenty warm without it,” Sammi teased, sticking her tongue out. Eriko rolled her eyes, but a smirk betrayed her amusement.
On the screen, two actresses shared a lingering gaze beside a glittering Christmas tree. “I love this one,” Sammi said. “It’s so romantic. But you know what would make it perfect?”
“Let me guess,” Eriko said. “Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lacey Chabert?”
Sammi gasped dramatically. “Exactly! Imagine them as the leads. Lacey as the bubbly small-town bakery owner, and Jennifer as the high-powered big-city exec who has to stay in town for the holidays.”
Eriko chuckled. “So basically the plot of every Christmas rom-com ever, but better because it’s them?”
“Obviously!” Sammi said, eyes sparkling. “Lacey would teach Jennifer to slow down and enjoy the magic of Christmas. And Jennifer would help Lacey believe in herself and her dreams.”
“And there’d be snowball fights, cookie decorating, and mistletoe,” Eriko added, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
“Yes!” Sammi clapped her hands. “And they’d totally fall in love during the town’s Christmas festival.”
Eriko leaned back, her arm draping over Sammi’s shoulders. “It does sound cute. But who plays the meddling best friend?”
“Easy,” Sammi said without hesitation. “Kristen Bell. She’d be perfect.”
Eriko laughed, her shoulders shaking. “Okay, you’ve sold me. Someone needs to pitch this to a network.”
“Right?” Sammi sighed dreamily. “It would be the ultimate Christmas movie.”
Eriko turned her head, her expression softening as she looked at Sammi. “You really get into this stuff, don’t you?”
“Of course I do,” Sammi said, leaning into her. “It’s about love and hope and finding your person. Who wouldn’t love that?”
Eriko smiled, brushing a kiss against Sammi’s temple. “Well, I found my person. So I guess I can tolerate a few more rom-coms.”
Sammi giggled, nestling closer. “You know you secretly love them.”
“Maybe,” Eriko admitted, her tone playful. “But only because I’m watching them with you.”
As the credits rolled on the movie, Sammi and Eriko stayed curled up together, their laughter mingling with the soft hum of Christmas music. Outside, the snow continued to fall, but inside, everything felt warm and bright.
